Introduction

An increasing number of news sites are resorting to paywalls in order to generate revenue. This can be frustrating if you’re trying to read an article and you hit a paywall. However, there are a few ways that you can bypass paywalls and read the articles that you want.

One way to bypass a paywall is to use an Incognito or Private browsing window. This will allow you to bypass most paywalls, as they will not be able to track your browsing history.

Another way to bypass a paywall is to use a web proxy. A web proxy will allow you to access a website through another server, which can sometimes help you bypass the paywall.

You can also try accessing the website from another device, such as a smartphone or tablet. Many times, you can access the website from these devices without being prompted to pay for a subscription.

If all else fails, you can try Googling the headline of the article plus the word “pdf.” This will sometimes lead you to a PDF version of the article that is not behind a paywall.

Tools You’ll Need

In order to bypass the paywalls of most news sites, you will need a few tools. The first is a proxy server, which will allow you to bypass the site’s IP blocking. You can find free proxy servers online, or you can use a paid service such as VPN Unlimited. The second tool you’ll need is a web browser extension that can block cookies and JavaScript. Once again, there are many options available, but we recommend uBlock Origin for Chrome and Firefox. Finally, you’ll need a way to access the sites’ RSS feeds. We recommend Feedly for this purpose.

With these tools in hand, you’re ready to start bypassing paywalls.

Method One: Use an Extension

If you’re using Google Chrome as your web browser, there are a few different extensions that you can install that will bypass paywalls on news sites. One of the most popular is called “Remove Paywall,” and it’s available for free from the Chrome Web Store. Once you’ve installed it, all you need to do is click on the icon in your toolbar and it will automatically bypass any paywalls that it comes across.

Another extension that works similarly is “Paywall Bypass,” and it too is available for free from the Chrome Web Store. Once installed, just click on the icon in your toolbar and it will automatically bypass any paywalls on the site that you’re currently viewing.

Method Two: Use a Proxy Server

1. First, find a proxy server. This is a computer that sits between your computer and the internet, and all your internet traffic goes through it. There are many free proxy servers available online, but be sure to choose one that is reliable and trustworthy.

2. Once you have found a proxy server, enter the URL of the news site you want to visit into the proxy server’s web address field.

3. The proxy server will now fetch the page on behalf of your computer, bypassing the paywall. When the page loads, you should be able to access all the content as normal.

Method Three: Use Incognito Mode

Open the Chrome browser on your computer and navigate to the website that you want to bypass the paywall for. Once you’re on the site, click the three dots in the top-right corner of the window and select “New incognito window” from the drop-down menu.

You should now be browsing in an incognito window. Try accessing the article or content that was behind a paywall—it should now be available!

Method Four: Use a VPN

If you’re willing to go the extra mile, you can use a VPN service to trick the website into thinking you’re from another country. Doing so will often allow you to bypass the paywall.

To do this, sign up for a VPN service. We recommend using NordVPN because it’s fast, secure, and easy to use. Once you have an account, download the appropriate app for your device and then connect to a server in another country—preferably one where the news site doesn’t have a paywall.

Now open your browser and navigate to the news website. You should be able to read articles without encountering any paywalls. When you’re done reading, be sure to disconnect from the VPN server before continuing to browse the internet normally.

Method Five: Use a Free Trial

Some news sites will let you bypass the paywall if you sign up for a free trial. This usually only works for a short period of time, after which you’ll need to enter your payment information. However, you can often cancel the free trial before it expires and continue to read articles without paying.

To use this method, find a news article on a site that has a paywall. Below the article, look for a link that says something like “Start free trial,” “Subscribe now,” or “Get unlimited access.” Click this link and follow the instructions to sign up for the free trial.

Once you’re signed up, you should be able to read articles without any restrictions. Keep in mind that you’ll need to cancel the free trial before it expires, or you’ll be charged for a subscription.

Conclusion

If you’re tired of being blocked bypaywalls when trying to read articles online, there are a few ways to work around them. You can use an Incognito or Private browsing window, disable cookies, or use a third-party extension like Freedom on your desktop, or Paywallpass on your mobile device. With a little effort, you can keep reading the news for free!
